Cowan 8, Wapahani 7: Justin O’Conner stole the show with a performance highlighted by hitting a towering opposite field home run into the trees at Yorktown, another oppo job that hit the right field foul pole, and yet another that sailed over the left center field fence to extend the lead to 8-3 over the Wapahani Raiders in a Delaware County Tournament semi final. Totaling 3 home runs was only the beginning as the No.1 ranked 2010 prospect also earned the win and save on the mound. He returned to the mound in a jam in the 7th to retire Wapahani one last time after a valiant comeback bid led by a Tyler Hensley 2 RBI double in the 7th to close the gap to 8-7. For Cowan, Cody Campbell had 2 hits with 1 double, Wabash bound Jake O’Conner had 2 hits and scored 3 times, Ball State signee Kirby Campbell added a hit and an RBI. For Wapahani, Brandon Estep had 2 hits and an RBI.
Yorktown 4, Delta 0: Junior standout pitcher Matt Ring shut down the Delta Eagles for a 4-0 win. Yorktown is now just a win over Cowan away from a third consecutive baseball county title. The Tigers scored one in the fourth inning and three in the sixth to provide Ring some breathing room. Alex McCartney was 3-for-3, and Nolan Hiestand collected two hits for the Tigers. Delta managed eight hits, two of which were by IU bound Greg Heban, and another by Zach Selvey, but Ring proved up to the challenge with runners in scoring position. He struck out eight. His final strikeout of the game came with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh inning.
Central beat Marion: Randy Ruble hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give Central a win in game one of over Marion. Rick Linton pitched a complete game and struck out six. He also hit a home run. In game two, Blake Hall got the win and stole two bases for Central. Brandon Knowling doubled in both games. |
