Semi-State Recap: 4A
Westfield 9, Castle 3: The Westfield Shamrocks punched their ticket to the IHSAA state championship game Saturday by defeating the Castle Knights 9-3 in Jasper, Indiana. The Rocks led from the start, when Zach Galyean opened the game up with a leadoff home run to left center. Scoring one in the first, three in the second, one in the third and three in the fifth, the Rocks took a commanding 8-0 lead over the Knights. That eight run lead was more than Kyle Kramp would need on the mound. Kramp scattered seven hits over seven innings to earn the complete game win while striking out six and allowing only three earned runs by a very good offensive ballclub. Taylor University recruit Taylor Luna was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI on the day. Brandon Thomas was 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Sophomore Andrew McCafferty added two RBI. The trip to Victory Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians, is the second for the Shamrocks. They were last at "The Vic" in 1998 as a 3A team. This time, the Rocks will compete as a 4A team against either top ranked Crown Point or Fort Wayne Snider. By Westfield Crown Point/FW Snider: The north semi-state championship was postponed to Monday at 8pm due to inclement weather. The game has also been moved to South Bend Clay high school. 3A
