Lafayette Central Catholic Class A State Champs Offensive powerhouse Central Catholic and Glaze roll over Vincennes Rivet 14-1 in the Class A championship game. Taylor Glaze (9-0) allowed just one hit in 5 innings pitched with 9 Ks to end the Patriots Cinderella story. Glaze finished his postseason run allowing just two earned runs over 27 innings of work. Sophomore Brett Haan relieved Glaze by pitching the final two innings without allowing a hit as the Knights pitchers combined to throw a one hitter. Central Catholic celebrated their third state championship in six years, state titles in 2004 and 2007. The Knights (28-4) scored early and often posting at least three runs in each of the first four innings. Reed Drysdale was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and Dru Anthrop, L.V. Phillips Mental Attitude Award, finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs to lead the high powered attach. Left fielder Cole Hruskovich was perfect on the day going 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. In Central Catholic’s final 10 innings they scored 36 runs and capped a run of 21 victories in 22 games. Freshman Austin Munn went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and junior Scott Windler also scored 3 times in the Knights title game. Vincennes Rivet (16-11) won its first regional title this season and made history with left-fielder Emily Montgomery as the first girl to play in a baseball state championship. |
