Heritage Christian atop of Class 2A The Eagles soared to an 11-3 victory. Heritage Christian (25-6) scored three runs in the first and got on the board with the bat of Chris Ward, who hit .600 with 13 HR this season. Ward hit an RBI doubled to deep right-center and junior shortstop Ryan Ledbetter, 1-for-1 with 2 RBIs, scored Ward on a sac fly to center. On Cass miscues the Eagles posted 3 more runs in the second on one hit as Heritage Christian was in complete control. Right-handed junior starter David Ledbetter, low-to-mid 80s fastball, pitched 1+ innings of only 2 hit baseball before Coach Dan Ambrose pulled the quick trigger for Heritage Christian. The reason soon became clear as senior righty Joe Perrott took the mound and got his team out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam. Perrott (5-1) went on to pitch 5+ innings with 7 Ks for the program’s first state championship. Harpst Sterling was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, catcher Jeremy Sherrill went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, 1B John Miley was 2-for-3, but the day belonged to Joe Perrott who finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. For Cass, junior 1B Brody Edgerly was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Keith Lee was named the L.V. Phillips Mental Attitude Award winner. |
