Matt Hammel, a 6-foot, 210-pound left-handed pitcher and first baseman, verbally committed to Heidelberg University. He posted a .347 batting average with 26 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, and 21 RBIs. Hammel, a two-way talent, is a strong all-around player who can swing it at the plate, pick it in the field, and has good mound presence and command on the bump. On the mound, he recorded a 4-2 record in 37 innings pitched with 42 Ks to only 15 walks. Hammel lead the 2009 Shamrocks with a 0.95 ERA. 

Hammel is the second Shamrock to commit this year following OF Brandon O’Conner (Ball State).
