Seniors Lead the Way for Mishawaka

In Mishawaka's first game of the season, senior C Nate Baker came off the bench to hit a game-tying, pinch-hit homerun. Such has been the way of the Cavemen this season: contribution's from everyone on a team that is stocked with enthusiasm and intensity.

Offensively, the Cavemen are led by senior 3B-SS Cameron Clark who, as of April 29, is batting .553 with eight doubles while slugging .895. He leads a pack of talented seniors: SS-RHP Kevin Brennan (.346 BA, .457 OBP; 1-0, 3.50 ERA), OF Mike Blackford (.429 BA, .556 OBP, six stolen bases), and IF-RHP Josh Rhoton (.340 BA, .429 OBP, 10 stolen bases; 4-2, 3.25 ERA).

Mishawaka also has a healthy infusion of juniors that help maintain the Caveman's winning formula. C-OF Evan Forslund is solid behind the plate, sporting a sub-two pop time. He also carries a capable stick: currently, he's hitting .425 with 13 RBIs. There's also IF Chad Shuamber, who started off hot but has cooled in recent weeks, and OF Frank Sutphin, who leads the team in walks. IF Cory Stoner has been on a hitting tear, batting .362.

When these seniors move on from Mishawaka, the Cavemen will be able to confidently rely on the freshmen waiting in the wings. OF Ben Versyp, C-1B Josh Fry, and SS Joey Schuster all look to be big high school talents.
